DAY 15

Hi All,

Today we head up the coast to Newport. We don't get 20 miles before we spot another lighthouse.

We figure a way to get to it by car and find out that it is Umpqua River Lighthouse.

Built in 1857.

It was the first lighthouse in Oregon Territory.

We lucked out, the tour was just starting.

This is one of the best kept lighthouses on the Oregon coast, due to the fact that it has always been occupied.

Ran on kerosene until 1937 when it was converted to electric.

Now lit by a 1000 watt light bulb and a backup that comes on if it should fail.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable.

We make it another 20 miles down the road and we find the sea lion caves and overlook.
We spot our first sea lions.

Looking down the coast we spot the Heceta Head Lighthouse. It was built in 1894.

You are looking into a huge sea lion cave; unfortunately, noone is home.

Looking out down the coast through a cave window.

A skeleton of a sea lion, we never knew that they we had bones in their feet.

If you look closely, you can see the blow hole in the picture.

Plotting their next move.

This rock is way too crowded.

We check in our room and look out the window and what do we see, another lighthouse.

The veiw of the Pacific from our room.

Tomorrow we keep heading north. See you then,

Ralph, Prilly & Sue
