DAY 10

Today we got to Oakhurst CA just outside of Yosemite.
Checked into the Shilo Inn and headed to Mariposa Grove,
home of the Giant Sequoias.

Prilly & Sue in front of the Fallen Monarch.
This tree fell some 300 years ago yet still lies in the same spot today.

This photo was taken in 1899 of the US cavalry. ( the same tree same place )

A couple of tree huggers.

Couldn't help to notice how much they look alike.

These mighty giants live to be 2 - 3 thousand years old.

Grizzly Giant, one of the largest trees.
It's estimated to be 2700 years old. That means it was 100 years
old 600 years before Christ.

Until you stand next to them it's hard to grasp the size of them.
It takes 1 acre of northwestern pine to equal the wood in one one these trees.

Honey did you water the trees in the front yard ?

It takes 100 years for one of these to grow 1foot larger in diameter.

This guy was telling us to move on.

The deer are very friendly here.

Sue looking for bear.

Hurry Sue, take the picture, this thing weighs a ton.

Counting the rings of time.

Tomorrow we head to the floor of Yosemite National Park in CA.

See you then,
Ralph , Prilly & Sue
